Hydeaway Bay for a wedding

Spent the week in Hydeaway Bay for a wedding, was a great trip. A few boats hanging around, including a cat, plenty of fishing and crabbing.

No fish were caught but we got heaps of mudcrabs, and tons of oysters. There was a small island that had basically been untouched, and we could pop over there and get our bag limit, and bring them back for everyone.

Some highlights include getting stuck on the sandbanks and getting to push a boat, some captain (who was also getting married) allowing his crew to through out 10 crab pots completely collapsed, and a bonfire on the beach ‘let’s try to run as far as we can up a palm before we fall off’ contest.

Good times!

Fishing in Queensland, love it!

Houseboat for Dad’s 60th

Dad was up in Darwin for his 60th, so we decided to surprise him with this houseboat trip. If you live n Darwin you definitely have to do a trip out here, the wetlands are stunning. We got to have a fish, but didn’t get any barra. Fishing is really difficult in Corroboree Billabong, at least it has been since I arrived in 2012.

Highlight was getting (someone else’s) fishing line wrapped around the prop, which took a while to sort out, and course we were stuck against the bank after that. We somehow managed to get free by pushing a broom against a tree, this pointed the point around enough that we got the houseboat moving.

Tiwi Islands – Great Trip

My boss decided to take us boys out on an overnight fishing trip. Writing this in 2015 it is still the best one that I have done. Got there and fished for Barra for the day with lots of success (by my standards). Stayed the light and had a quick trawl in the morning. Then went goldie hunting.

Got:
Me: 5 barra, 3 good goldies (including a double header on a handline) and tons of reddies
Boss: 6 barra, loads of goldies and reddies
Mate: 1 barra, loads of goldies and reddies

Story of the trip:
Getting smashed by the goldie school! They busted me off and I quickly swapped to my handline, as we wanted to keep feeding squid down there before the school moved on. Nothing like pulling a double header up!

Group Kakadu Trip

Awesome three day Kakadu trip.

Rowen, Claire and I went down and saw Nourlangie the first night, did some stargazing at Mardugal, before meeting up with the others the next day.

The next day we went to Gubara for a swim and a bushwalk, and onto Ubirr for sunset.

On the last day we had a sunrise cruise and fishing trip at Yellow Water, Chops managed to get an undersized barra, saw some big crocs and Jabiru’s.

Got some really good photos there two, probably my two favourite from Kakadu were taken here. Both got touched up as I needed to remove Claire’s annoying date stamp! Taught myself photoshop for that single reason, otherwise they are totally untouched, so I hope you like them.
