Reynolds River Track – Litchfield

Reynolds is a beautiful 4WD track, great varying scenary, not too difficult but enough to keep you interested.

The big “x-factor” is that damn river crossing. It is generally 600mm to 700mm (check the access report) the bottom isn’t that firm, you can’t walk it due to crocs, and there is a big bend it in, so it is difficult to know you are going the correct way. There are also two different routes, the first time I went one was roped off… so I never went that way.

So depends on how bad you want to do it… I’ve done it twice and doubt I’ll do it again.

DROP YOUR TYRE PRESSURE! If you don’t do it on the track, make sure you do it across the river.

Surprise Creek Falls – Litchfield

Surprise Creek is a great spot. A few rock pools, they are pretty deep too, so (if you test the depth first!) you can generally jump off. For the older crowd they can be a little difficult to get in and out of, but you can swim below them.

Katherine Gorge – Location

I have only been down to Katherine Gorge once, it was in January so we couldn’t swim. We also stayed a resort so I am far from an expert… this is reserved for future use

Edith Falls – Location

Edith Falls is roughly halfway to Katherine from Darwin, probably a bit closer to Katherine. It is a great campsite. There are three main pools to swim in. The first is a 100m flat walk to the campsite. It is a very large rockpool, it can be hard to enter without good footwear.

The second is the main one, it is pretty short, from memory 300m, however it is pretty steep and quite rocky in sections. But it is worth it, as the pools are great.
